Last week Erick Erickson, a fan of the red state, said on his radio show "he'd pull his wife's shotgun" if a census worker came to his door for not returning his census.
Press Secretary Gibbs responded to a question about Erickson's comments saying they were "remarkably crazy."
What is remarkably crazy about it... is the remarkable hypocrisy.
Whether Erickson likes it or not he's an influential character for the Tea Party.
He's fueling the fire for the tea-baggers, most of them unemployed, who are angry about taxes and lack of jobs. He's setting an example to not return their census, a government project that could add as many as 700,000 jobs.
Down the road, when they complain their voices aren't being heard, are they going to be mad at Gibbs when he says, "They didn't fill out a census. We can't hear their voices because we don't know who they are."
I'm sure they won't like that or understand it either.
After all, they are a group of people mad about taxes, named after a tax revolt, that when surveyed only two percent of them understood that under Obama their taxes actually went down. For a group so heavily invested in taxation, they don't understand much about it.
But keep talking Erick, you're going to talk your way right off your new gig and add supporters to the Democratic side.
